A tubular glide is a furniture glide that rests on a surface, usually a floor, that is typically installed or inserted into the inside diameter of tubular chair legs. They are ideal for a variety of applications to help prevent noise and aid in moving heavy furniture. Tube chair glides can also prevent damage to hardwood floors.

Tube Chair Glide Materials & Configurations

We offer tubular glides in the following styles: Cushioned, Sierra, Low Silhouette, Saturn, Hercules, Monaco, and Windsor. These tubular chair inserts and heavy-duty tubular glides come in a variety of base materials in many possible outside diameters (OD), including:
  • 1-5/16”
  • 1-1/16”
  • 1-1/8”
  • 1.2”
  • And more!
Square, round, and other tubular glide shapes are available to meet your exact specifications.

Metal Platform Tubular Glides

Our steel tubular glides typically have a zinc-plated steel platform that the end of the tube rests on. They have a heat-treated spring steel retaining clip attached to a rivet that press-fits up into the tube’s inside diameter (ID). The other end of the rivet is attached to a metal, plastic, or non-skid base. Other features include:
  • Ability fit in round or square tubing
  • OD from 5/8” to 1-1/2”
  • 11-20 gauge tube range in swivel and non-swivel versions.

Plastic Tubular Chair Inserts

Plastic tubular glides from Superior Components are one-piece plastic tubular glides with a flat bottom base designed for use on furniture legs that are 90 degrees perpendicular to the floor. Our plastic tubular glides work on most pipe shapes, such as:
  • Round
  • Square
  • Oval
  • Rectangular
All tubular furniture glides have an insert section that press-fits into the tube ID and a base that the end of the tube rests on. The surface on the bottom and exposed side edge ranges from smooth to matte to textured.

Heavy-Duty Tubular Glide Styles for Furniture

We stock three types of insert section for tubular glides:
  • Flat Wall Insert Style tubular glides press-fit into a specific gauge tube that is usually within +/-0.005” of the target tube ID. This industrial plastic tube chair glide style offers the tightest fit in the tube. It is generally made of harder plastics like HDPE, ABS, polypropylene, nylon, clear K-Resin, and polycarbonate.
  • Vertical Ribs Insert Style tubular chair inserts are the same as the flat wall style except that there are vertical insert ribs on the flat insert wall. These vertical insert ribs allow the part to work in a wider range of tube ID. Most of these tube chair glides can work in a 16-17 gauge or even 16-17-18 gauge range.
  • Horizontal Fins Insert Style tubular glides, also called “ratchet fasteners” or “Christmas tree clips,” feature fins that bend to press-fit into the tube ID. They fit in a wide range of tubing gauges and have excellent holding power in the tube. Horizontal fins insert style tubular glides are typically made of LDPE.
